Phil Bassett is the Dean of Learning and Teaching for Glyndŵr University and Head of the School of Education & Community. He is Director of the Centre for Pedagogic Research and Scholarship which, although a research centre of the School of Education & Community, serves the whole of the University.
Phil initially started in education as a secondary school teacher but then moved into the primary sector where he became a deputy headteacher and then headteacher. He entered higher education as a Senior Lecturer with the University of Wales Institute Cardiff and became a Head of School before leaving to take up his position with NEWI (as Glyndŵr University was then known).
Throughout his career in HE, Phil has contributed to national committees and organisations. He has chaired a number of national committees and consulted for education related organisations in England and Wales. He has forged a number of partnerships with agencies and universities within the UK and abroad.
His research interests have been mainly in school partnerships but he has also published on topics associated with assessment and learning in HE. He is committed to the development of the Children’s University in Wales, which he started with a senior colleague from Wrexham’s Education Authority and to the Continuing Professional Development for teachers in all sectors.
