Objectives

The objectives from the outset were global and designed to merge the academic, technical and commercial boundaries. The partnership provides stable funding over a medium to a long term basis, allows fundamental programme to involve research students and the work to be published in peer review literature, free exchange of information with company, access to expertise and equipment not available in the University and more importantly a contact with the world of “real” products.

Benefits to the industry include: access to state of the art thinking in the direct and allied areas of research, an in depth evaluation of company products, staff development and new intellectual property to be protected.

Collaborations with major companies and world renowned international Universities and Institutes have been established.

A range of new products have been produced in association with major international companies who have jointly developed the protected intellectual property which is vested in the parent companies Phillips Hydrocolloids Research Ltd and San –Ei Gen FFI Inc. Full confidentiality is guaranteed to all collaborating companies. When the development of products is a collaborative venture, the rewards also are shared.
