Richard Dover

Richard’s first degree, in English and Philosophy, was undertaken at the University of Sussex, and he also completed his doctorate, a study of E M Forster and the English Liberal Humanist Tradition in English Writing, at Sussex.

He studied at the University of Birmingham, working under Professor David Lodge, and with the Birmingham Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies. He has taught at the Universities of Sussex, Brighton, Portsmouth and the Open University, and at West Sussex Institute of Higher Education.

Richard has taught a full range of undergraduate modules in English, Cultural Studies, Media and Film Studies, Critical Theory, Performance Arts and Creative Writing, and he runs the MA programme "English Literary Culture: 1880-1920".

He is currently working on research on post-Jungian psychological approaches to late nineteenth and early twentieth century literary texts. Other research interests include: Discourses of Englishness in Twentieth Century literary and musical culture, and the use of hypertext in literary studies. He is currently supervising a number of PhD students on projects in Aesthetics, Theatre and Literature.

Richard is a Fellow of the HE Academy, and an external examiner at Coventry and previously at the University of Chester. In addition to his responsibilities for Humanities, Richard is also Head of Planning at Glyndŵr University, with significant responsibilities for the University’s strategic and business planning processes.
