Personal Development Planning (PDP)

Personal Development Planning (PDP)

In 2006/7 the School of Humanities implemented a system of Personal Development Planning, PDP.

The essence of the PDP process is that you develop a record of skills, competencies, interests and knowledge as you progress throughout the programme, and this is recorded in a file, your Progress File.

The aim of the PDP process is to help you to recognise and develop your skills, interests and knowledge and to help you for your life and career after graduation. We hope that this process will be of considerable benefit to you throughout your time on the BA Humanities programme at Glyndŵr University and also in your life after graduation.

Many of the skills and the range of experience you develop through your degree will be of considerable benefit to you, and using the PDP process will help you to record your development and help you to plan your future.

At the heart of the PDP process is the Student Progress File. This is a record of evidence which you build up and maintain throughout the course.

The file includes:

  • records of your meetings with your Personal Tutor
  • completed self-awareness activities such as learning style questionnaires, skills audits, self-assessment questionnaires and SWOT analyses. (If you complete these online you can print them off)
  • completed proformas which ask you to reflect on your qualifications, experience, extra-curricular activities
  • completed PDP Action Plans
  • your reflective journal OR a selection of entries from your reflective log or journal that represent critical incidents or significant learning opportunities
  • responses to reflective tasks completed through your degree programme
  • certificates or awards received for technical and transferable skills that you have developed
  • written feedback, including e-mails, from tutors etc. that express satisfaction in work that you have carried out
  • 'results’ letters or transcripts from the School of Humanities
