FdSc Organic Horticulture Management
The UK horticulture industry is vast and encompasses everything from landscape design and construction to crop production to horticulture retail. We also offer a specialist course in the area of outdoor sports management. The industry has seen extensive modernisation in recent years. As a result there is a huge demand for well-trained, knowledgeable individuals to manage and enjoy the challenges of this field and take the industry forward. This course offers you the opportunity to acquire a range of transferable skills.
You will develop excellent leadership and management skills supported by sector specific knowledge. You will develop the ability to think critically and make business decisions based on sound technical and managerial skills.

Course content
FdSc Organic Horticulture Management
This programme shares a common core with other land-based courses, covering Global Horticulture, Plant Forms, Rooting Environment, Introduction to Management, Contract and Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Research and Specialist Study Skills. Depending on your chosen degree you will study additional specialist modules.
You will cover core modules as well as specialist modules such as Crop Management, Organic Crop Production, Horticultural Markets and Organic Crop Supply.

Assessment
This is based on coursework that comprises practical tasks, assignments and simulated or real work experience and student-produced evidence of achievement. Coursework is part of the learning process and students are advised on their development by personal tutors who support them though the course.

Entry requirements and applying
The normal entry requirements are 100 UCAS points at A level or equivalent level 3 award such as NVQ, Scottish or Irish Higher, National Diploma or Certificate from a range of subject areas. Applicants without such qualifications but with interest and/or relevant experience are also welcome.

From 2012 our general academic requirement for an honours degree will be 240 UCAS points, and for a foundation degree 120 UCAS points. If you do not have the points required your application will still be considered. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and with a range of experiences.
