FdSc Information Technology Support

This course will equip you for a career in supporting the information technology systems that we rely on in our working lives.

Supporting the use of Information Technology is an essential function of most organisations. And there is a strong demand for skilled technicians who can do this well.

If you are looking to develop a career in technical support in the information technology industry, this course offers the opportunity to combine technical and professional studies with hands-on learning; focusing on help desk/call centre support, network administration and troubleshooting.

It is the ideal course if you have no previous background or formal education in computing, if you wish to retrain or upgrade your computer skills.

Course content

FdSc Information Technology Support

This course is designed to prepare you for entry-level technical support positions in the information technology industry. You will gain a formal recognised qualification within the field of computing, but if you want to take your studies further this could be a first step towards some of the most highly regarded Microsoft and Cisco professional qualifications.

Typical course content:

  • the core technical element of the course will develop practical skills in installing, troubleshooting and operating software and hardware
  • performing maintenance tasks on computers and networks
  • working with notebooks, laptops, and PDAs
  • working with Internet applications

The general requirement for the foundation degree is 140 UCAS points at A level or equivalent. See information on general entry requirements.

Part time applicants should apply direct

From 2012 our general academic requirement for an honours degree will be 240 UCAS points, and for a foundation degree 120 UCAS points. If you do not have the points required your application will still be considered. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and with a range of experiences.
