Diploma in Psychology (Conversion Course)

Psychology is the science of the mind, and the human brain is said to be the most complex machine on Earth. This diploma opens the door to a vast exploration of the source of all thoughts and behaviours.

Psychology is the study of the human mind and behaviour as well as the thoughts, feelings, and motivation essential to that behaviour. It is one of the few subjects that has direct relevance to everyone’s life.

This course is intended for those who already have a degree with some element of psychology, but who are not yet eligible for membership to the British Psychological Society.

Course content

Diploma in Psychology (Conversion Course)

Throughout the course you will gain a greater understanding of social interaction, individual development and the way in which the brain interprets information that we deal with on a daily basis. If you’ve ever questioned people’s behaviour or reactions or wondered how the human brain works, then studying this degree will be ideal for your questioning mind and help you gain this understanding.

Typical course content:

The scientific nature of psychology is emphasised throughout the course with specific modules relating to: social psychology, developmental psychology, individual differences, cognitive psychology, and psychobiology. You will develop your statistical and research skills through regular laboratory based practicals and in the final part of the course you will complete a substantial final project on a topic of your choice.

A degree in psychology opens up progression into a wide range of careers including:

  • Educational psychology
  • Occupational psychology
  • Health psychology
  • Counselling psychology

Alternatively, you could go on to postgraduate training, research or teaching.

Assessment

You will be assessed by a combination of coursework (essays, portfolios and practical reports), presentations and examinations. You will be required to do a dissertation as part of your final year assessment.

Entry requirements and applying

For entry onto the programme students will need to have a first degree (2:2) or above in a subject that has an element of psychological content and be subject to an interview.

Psychology main image The programme is accredited as conferring eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, provided the minimum standard of a lower class Honours is achieved. This is the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist.
