These courses will give you a broad knowledge of business and management theories and an understanding of modern business issues. Studying on one of these courses you will gain an insight into the world of business and develop the skills and abilities required in order to be successful in a modern business environment.

Course content

BA (Hons) Business Management

This business management honours degree course allows you to develop a broad range of key personal and professional skills which will help you to formulate, evaluate and recommend solutions to business problems, take responsibility and initiative in projects, develop information technology skills and communicate effectively.

You will develop the skills and abilities required to become a successful business manager. You will study management, marketing, human resources, finance and business planning and have the opportunity to study abroad for a semester in year 2 or undertake some work based modules. You will study a research project in the subject of your choice in the final year of the degree.

Typical course content

In the early stages of the course you will cover a range of topics which are fundamental to good business practice including marketing, business planning, human resource management and accounting. You will also develop your IT and communication skills as well as developing an understanding of the business environment and law and honing you study skills.

Later in the course you will have lots of opportunity to choose modules which fall within your specific areas of interest whether you are interested in specialist marketing modules, employment law, leadership, finance, strategic management or global business.

Entry requirements and applying

240 points at A level or equivalent from a minimum of two A levels and GCSE Mathematics and English at Grade C or equivalent. The part time route is available for those progressing from the HNC Business and Management course or equivalent qualifications. See information on general entry requirements. Students completing the FdA Business Management may top up to the BA (Hons) with one year of further study. IELTS 6.0 required for those who are not native English language speakers.

FdA Business Management

 

On the foundation degree you will cover the main areas of business and management and have opportunities to specialise in topics which reflect your career aspirations. You will develop a range of key personal skills, which will help you to formulate, evaluate and recommend solutions to business problems, take responsibility and initiative in projects, develop information technology skills and communicate effectively.

Typical course content

On this course you will cover the fundamentals of business. You will study topics such as management in organisations, human resource management, the business environment and law along with business planning and marketing. You will also improve your study skills and work based skills. Later in the course you will learn about managing financial information and delivering customer value as well as completing a work based project.

FdA Business Management course structure

Assessment

Assessment is a combination of work based learning and assignments. Assignments include case studies, group presentations, reports and company analysis.

HNC Business Management

 

You will develop key business skills, be introduced to management and human resource management issues as well as learning how to manage an organisation’s financial resources. Later in the course you will study marketing and business planning, learn about the organisational environment and carry out a work-based project.

Typical course content

The part-time HNC course is designed for those working who wish to improve their key business skills and improve their career prospects by developing a sound understanding of the fundamentals of modern business. It is possible to progress from the HNC to the foundation degree or the honours degree.

Assessment is a combination of work based projects and assignments. Assignments include case studies, group presentations, reports, reflective log and company analysis.

Entry requirements and applying

100 points from a minimum of 1 A level. Formal academic qualifications are may not be required if you are able to demonstrate suitable work based experience. See information on general entry requirements.

From 2012 our general academic requirement for an honours degree will be 240 UCAS points, and for a foundation degree 120 UCAS points. If you do not have the points required your application will still be considered. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and with a range of experiences.
