Building Studies
BSc (Hons) Building Studies (Construction Management)
The construction and management of our built environment and heritage is at the heart of this course. But we are focused on the future - the challenges facing professionals in this field are critical to the success of any strategy to combat global warming and climate change.
The course is designed to prepare you for professional practice. You will develop skills, not only in traditional and modern construction techniques, but also in law, sustainability, economics, business management and the pathology of defects and deterioration. Demand for new buildings is constant, whilst existing buildings need care and attention to maintain their potential. The built environment also needs to adapt to legislative or owner and occupier requirements, and meet performance criteria and economic viability.

- Small tutorial groups allow for a high level of tutor support
- The course is fully accredited by two professional bodies - the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Association of Building Engineers (ABE) and provide access to European transferable qualifications and Chartered Status in the UK. Achievement of the honours degree grants full exemption from the professional exams of the ABE and CIOB. The programmes are also affiliated to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)

Course content
BSc (Hons) Building Studies (Construction Management)
This degree prepares you for the management of construction projects of all sizes. It prepares you to take on responsibilities of client management, to satisfy employers that projects are completed to date, to specified standard and budget.

Assessment
Assessments for the course are based on portfolios, simulated workplace tasks such as reports, briefing papers, client advice and presentation of materials. There are also seminars and team activities.

From 2012 our general academic requirement for an honours degree will be 240 UCAS points, and for a foundation degree 120 UCAS points. If you do not have the points required your application will still be considered. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and with a range of experiences.
