Postgraduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Palliative Care

The course is grounded in leading edge palliative care practice and supported by academic and clinical staff with high levels of expertise. It develops practitioners towards mastering their practice and effectively supporting patients and their families in any setting.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Palliative Care is offered as an interdisciplinary provision for health and social care professionals working in all areas of the health and social care sector. A key part of the programme is critical reflection on clinical practice and on issues pertinent to palliative care. This encourages practitioners to share their knowledge and skills at an advanced level. It will develop awareness of the interdisciplinary approach central to palliative care.

It’s intended in the future to build on this certificate and offer a full masters degree in Interdisciplinary Palliative Care. Successfully complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Care and you’ll be able to go on to study the masters programme. The full masters programme will prepare you to undertake doctoral level study. It will enhance your research expertise, and it’s the ideal platform to develop your skills of evaluation and synthesis towards originality in thinking.

Assessment

Written critical reflection, case study and critical analysis of a videotaped scenario.

Entry requirements

You need to hold a degree in a health subject or similar area; or a non-graduate qualification in a health subject or similar area which the university deems as satisfactory for postgraduate study.

If you’re a non-graduate you might also be admitted on to the course provided that you’re practising as a practitioner in health or social care and you have held, for a minimum of two years, a responsible position which is relevant to the scheme to be pursued. Irrespective of entry qualifications, you need to show the interview panel that you’re able to produce academic work to the standard needed to complete the programme successfully.
