The University Research Centre for Materials, Engineering and Manufacturing brings together several strands of inter-related research of national and international standing including advanced composite materials, large scale precision optics, water soluble polymers, photovoltaics and fluid dynamics.
The Centre’s focus is on applied research producing results which can be applied in a wide range of industry sectors.
Staff and research students are based at the University’s main Plas Coch Campus in Wrexham, and at the specialist facilities in St Asaph (hosting large scale precision optics and photovoltaics research) and Broughton (hosting the Advanced Composite Training and Development Centre).
Research groups with a focus on specific issues include:
- Centre for Solar Energy Research
- Centre for Water Soluble Polymers
- Glyn O. Phillips Hydrocolloids Research Centre
- National Facility for Ultra Precision Surfaces
