Entry requirements

The entry requirements given alongside the course descriptions are given as general guidance to the level of offers which are made.

We wish to stress that all applicants are considered on an individual basis and that motivation and commitment are considered alongside academic requirements.

All applicants should be able to show their ability to complete their chosen course successfully.

If you are unsure whether you meet the entry requirements then please contact us. We are flexible and understand that some people may not have the formal qualifications but may still have the drive and ability to complete a higher education course.

Undergraduate entry requirements

Please see individual course details for specific entry requirements.

Advanced entry to levels 2 or 3 of a degree course is possible based on previous completion of a HND or foundation degree and a wide variety of European qualifications such as DUT, IUT, Abitur.

Postgraduate entry requirements

The normal entry requirement for postgraduate courses is a recognised degree.

This usually means at least equivalence to a good second-class honours degree standard in a relevant subject.

Please see individual course details for specific entry requirements.

Research degrees

See our Postgraduate Office web pages for more information about entry requirements for research degrees.

Criminal Records Bureau checks

Where indicated in the prospectus or throughout the website, specific programmes / courses may involve regular access to children and/or vulnerable adults, also know as regulated activity.

Where this is the case, students will be legally required to register with the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS) which is administered by the Independent Safeguarding Authority. The Independent Safeguarding Authority has recently been established as a single agency to monitor all individuals who want to work or volunteer with vulnerable people. Registration with the scheme will cost £64, as a one-off payment, which will cover both the cost of registration and a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.

Following successful registration you will be issued with an ISA Registration Number which will stay with you for the rest of your career. The University will send further instructions on registering with VBS as part of the admissions process.

For further guidance please look at the information shown against the programme / course or contact the Student Information Desk on 01978 293439.

Accreditation of Prior Learning and Experience

If you are able to demonstrate appropriate knowledge and experience in your chosen subject, you may be eligible for exemption from parts of your course.
