KESS Studentship (PhD) Commencing 2010/11
High Throughput Process for Atmospheric-Pressure Inline Production of Thin Film Photovoltaics Centre for Solar Energy Research (CSER). Part of the Low Carbon Research Institute (LCRI)
Glyndŵr University’s Centre for Solar Energy Research and Scanwel Ltd, specialising in bespoke deposition systems, have entered a partnership to work on process development research. CSER has an international reputation in the field of thin film CdTe photovoltaic (PV). The dynamic team at CSER has a unique capability to research high quality materials by MOCVD techniques.
The proposed 3 years KESS studentship will involve the exciting and challenging tasks of studying, designing and developing an innovative and cost effective inline process.
The focus will be working towards achieving thin film CdTe PV modules with 14% conversion efficiencies and above.

We expect... - Masters or Bachelors (1st or 2.1) degree in physics, materials science, engineering or physical/inorganic chemistry, - Good knowledge in processes development and optimization, - Inquisitiveness, commitment and creativity.
Approximate stipend: £13,290 per annum
Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships (KESS) The offered PhD qualification is integrated with a high-level skills training programme, leading to a Postgraduate Skills Development Award (60 credits).
Eligibility for the KESS studentship The candidates must be resident (or employed) in the Convergence area (West Wales and the Valleys) on application. The candidates must also be able to take paid employment in the Convergence area on completion of the scholarship.
