Full-time undergraduate study in 2012/13 – what you’ll pay and the support you can get

Fees update May13 2011

Glyndŵr University has announced an average fee of £6,643 for full-time undergraduate degrees in the academic year 2012-13.

The university’s fee plan recognises the need to avoid, as far as possible, burdening students with large debt when they leave University.

Fees will start below £4,000 for foundation degrees, and range to £7,750 for STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths).

Because you need to think about how you’re going to pay your tuition fees and living costs once you’re at Glyndŵr University, we will be keeping you up to date with the latest on fees and support in 2012/13 through this section of our website, as well as our Facebook page and twitter feed (@glyndwruni).

What help can I get?

There will be help available to pay fees and meet living costs. The amount you will get will depend on your household income and the university you choose.

Remember – you won’t need to pay any fees to Glyndŵr University up front.

  • Grants are money you don’t have to pay back. If you come from a lower income household in Wales you may be eligible for up to an Assembly Learning Grant of up to £5,000. Your household income may mean you will apply for part of this money rather than the full amount. Other grants are available for students with special circumstances, including disabled students who may have extra costs to meet.
  • Maintenance loans have to be paid back, but only after you’ve left university and are earning over a set amount. At the moment this amount in Wales is £15,000. This type of loan is to help you with living expenses such as rent, food and socialising while you’re at university.
  • Tuition fee loans are available from Student Finance Wales. These are to pay course fees to the university. Again you do not need to pay this money back until after you have left university.
  • The New Fee Grant is a new grant set to come in to force from September 2012. It will cover any extra cost which you may have to meet above what new students are paying in September 2011. This money, along with the tuition fee loan, will be paid directly to us on your behalf. You won’t need to find money up front to pay for the cost of studying full-time.

When should I apply for help?

According to Student Finance Wales application forms should be available in early 2012. We would urge you to apply as early as possible for support to make sure it’s ready once you register with us. Once forms are available we’ll update this section of the site to tell you how to get hold of them quickly. Further information, advice and guidance is available on all of the above from Glyndŵr University’s funding advisors - please see contact details below.

Fees in 2011-12

Fees for 2011 entry will not be affected by the changes in 2012-13 above. Glyndŵr University has followed the guidance of the Welsh Government, and tuition fees for 2011 entry will be £3,375 for full-time undergraduate UK students.

Students starting courses in 2011 will continue to pay fees at around 2011 levels for the duration of their course.
