University’s Year of Celebration kicks off in style27 January 2009
Friends of Glyndŵr University gathered to kick off its Year of Celebration at the first ever Glyndŵr University Ball. Hundreds attended the event in the William Aston Hall on Friday 23 January. Guests enjoyed a three course meal, champagne, and music courtesy of Beatles tribute act The Fab Four. The inaugural Glyndŵr University Ball was the start of a year-long series of events in 2009 to celebrate the formation of the institution, which was awarded university status in July 2008. Professor Michael Scott, Vice-Chancellor of Glyndŵr University, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people turn out for what was a special occasion. Everyone had a great night and we hope there’ll be plenty more to come throughout the year.” The 2009 Year of Celebration continues on Saturday 28 February with the Inauguration of the University and the Installation of the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor. Hundreds of civic leaders and dignitaries are expected to attend the event, which will take in a procession through Wrexham followed by a ceremony in the town’s St Giles’ Church.
