New course will save businesses thousands on staff training
15 July 2009
A revolutionary course delivered entirely online will help businesses save on the thousands of pounds spent every year on staff training.
The Postgraduate Certificate in E-learning, offered by Glyndŵr University in Wrexham, will provide Education and HR professionals with the skills and expertise to deliver staff training and inductions using the internet.
One of very few courses of its kind offered by a UK university, it will explore the different technologies available to organisations for supporting staff development, as well as how these programmes can be managed online.
With government research revealing that UK employers spend more than £38.6 billion per year training their staff*, having employees who are able to set up and deliver training programmes online would allow companies to make significant cost savings, said course leader Dr Clive Buckley.
He said: “Technology is something which no-one involved in staff training, teaching or development can ignore. The opportunities offered by the internet alone for cost savings are massive. More and more companies, for example, are starting to conduct their staff inductions online, through web portals which provide key information and pose questions to test and confirm learners’ knowledge.
“This course is all about providing a new generation of employees with the skills to be able to take advantage of such technologies and how best they can be utilised.”
The course will be taught by academics from Glyndŵr University, including European knowledge management expert Maarten Cannaerts, who will provide an international perspective on e-learning.
Web 2.0 technologies, such as blogs and social networking technologies, will be used to deliver the course.
“It is a truly global course,” added Dr Buckley. “As long as you have access to the internet you can study the course anywhere in the world.”
The course has a rolling start date with intakes in September and January. Students can join the course in the 2009-2010 academic year for just £750 by taking advantage of the Glyndŵr University Postgraduate Scholarship 2009.**
