Artwork to brighten up village bus stops

Passengers waiting for the bus in any one of three North Wales villages will soon be able to do so while admiring work by students from an award-winning art school.

‘Waiting’ is the latest outdoor exhibition of work by the Inside Out art group, a collective of students and graduates of the North Wales School of Art and Design at Glyndŵr University.

Artwork will be on display at bus stops in the neighbouring villages of Pandy, Tregeirog and Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, near Wrexham, from Sunday 1 February.

Diana Baur, co-founder of Inside Out, said: “We are delighted to have been given permission from the Ceiriog Valley councils to use the bus shelters to exhibit our artwork in this taster exhibition.

“The artists realise that there may possibly be risks involved in exhibiting in a public place, but it is part of their mission to make art accessible to the public.

“We are starting this project in February, but further works will be similarly exhibited throughout 2009, for example our May exhibition will run from May 10 – 25.”

The Inside Out art group was originally conceived by Diana Baur and John Swogger as an opportunity for professional and practising artists in and around the Ceiriog Valley to exhibit work in a village-wide setting.

The group first exhibited its work in Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog in June 2008. The two week exhibition, which attracted over 1000 visitors to the village, featured contributions from a wide range of artists, including painters, sculptors, glass workers, textile artists and landscape artists.

Six pieces from the exhibition have since been sold, including sculpture, glass, ceramics and painting works.

Work will be on show as part of ‘Waiting’ from Sunday 1 February to Saturday 28 February 2009.
