‘Inside Out’ exhibition success12 June 2008
NEWI art and design students and graduates have received tremendous reviews about an exhibition they took part in last month. The exhibition, ‘Inside Out’, was based in the village of Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog and featured work by local artists as well as NEWI students and graduates. The idea of the exhibition was to exhibit work across the village so that work was not confined to the usual parameters of presentation and display. The two week exhibition featured contributions from a wide range of artists including painters, sculptors, glass workers, textile artists and landscape artists. As it was an outdoor exhibition many of the artists explored the durability of materials as well as the appearance of their work within the landscape. Six pieces from the exhibition have been sold to date including a sculpture by Fine Art graduate Jim Heath, a glass piece by second year student, Chrissie Smith, a ceramics piece by final year applied arts student Peter Davies and a painting by Diana Baur, second year art student. Many of the artists also made contact with people wanting to commission new pieces, including sculptor and NEWI graduate Judy Greaves. ‘Inside Out’ attracted over 1000 visitors to the village over the two weeks and it is hoped that an indoor exhibition of the project could be organised next year. |
