The debate is on
16 March 2007
With the National Assembly elections looming in Wales NEWI is hosting a public debate to give everyone a chance to find out more and to ask the politicians questions on whatever matters to them. The powers of the National Assembly are set to increase following the elections this May and the changes will undoubtedly have an impact on everyone in Wales. Everyday issues in health, education, economic development, planning and culture are already decided on by the Assembly and soon even more areas will come under the Assembly’s remit.
Devolution has already meant many changes in Wales. In education we have already seen the Assembly take a different approach to university tuition fees and in health the introduction of free prescriptions for everyone in Wales will already be in place by the time Wales goes to the polls. With increased powers there are certain to be more changes in the future but do people really know what the parties have planned?
The debate will be chaired by BBC Political Correspondent John Stevenson and the panel will include representatives of each of the key parties. They will be asked to give a short presentation on “What will your party do to develop Welsh devolution?” and then there will be time for questions from the public.
The event will take place on Thursday 22nd March 2006 at 7.30 pm in the Nick Whitehead Theatre on NEWI’s Plas Coch Campus.
The event is open to everyone, to register your attendance for the debate call 01978 293349 or email a.cordner@newi.ac.uk or just turn up on the evening.
