New look for NEWI Students’ Guild

23 August 2007

Students returning to NEWI this month won’t recognise the former student’s union building.  The renamed Students’ Guild has undergone extensive refurbishment to give it a modern and airy feel and to make space for new facilities.  New zones have been created within the building including a jobshop, which will promote part-time job vacancies to students as well as careers information and advice, the Sparks zone which will help students develop their entrepreneurial skills and a Student Welfare and Advice Office.  There are also plans to incorporate a print room within the building to provide students with easy access to cost effective photocopying and printing facilities.

Katie Tilsley, the elected President of the Guild is thrilled with the work that has taken place. She said, “It will make a real difference, the space will be so much more versatile and it has brought the Guild bar area up to date. It looks modern and appealing; somewhere the students will feel relaxed and want to socialise.”

Katie’s office is being positioned at the front of the building so that it will be really accessible.   “Whatever the students want they will be able to find me easily.  There will be lots of exciting things happening throughout the year.  During Freshers’ week next week we’ve got something different happening every night.”
