Launch of daffodil competition

20 December 2007

To mark the tenth anniversary of the Wrexham Science Festival in 2008, NEWI and the Wrexham Science Festival have teamed up with Marie Curie Cancer Care to establish a special competition which will get people thinking creatively about daffodils.

Entrants to the competition are asked to use their imagination to create a daffodil; this could be by drawing or painting a picture; making a collage, model or sculpture or even baking a cake the possibilities are endless.

The competition ‘Create a Daffodil’ will be judged by staff from NEWI’s North Wales School of Art and Design and representatives from Marie Curie Cancer Care. Entries will be grouped into the following five judging categories: individual entries by age categories; 6 and under, 7-11, 12 -17; and adult participants; and group entries of any age group or mixed age group.

There is a choice of prize out of a Nintendo Wii; X Box 360; Nintendo DS Lite all including a game for each individual entry winner and the group winner will be awarded £200 in Homebase vouchers to spend within the garden centre.

Emma Prevete, Events Co-ordinator at NEWI and one of the organisers of the Wrexham Science Festival said “I’m really excited about this competition; I can’t wait to see what people create! Marie Curie Cancer Care are a great organisation and do some wonderful work, I was really pleased that they have joined us to launch this competition to mark the tenth Wrexham Science Festival”.

All entries will be on public display forming a ‘field of hope’ during the Wrexham Science Festival at NEWI and a winner of each category will be announced at Scientriffic on Saturday 15th March.

The competition will be open from Wednesday 2nd January and is open to everyone. If you would like a competition entry pack please call 01978 293473 or e-mail wideningaccess@newi.ac.uk
