Pupils given a taste of university life

16 May 2006

A presentation evening in the form of a ‘mini graduation’ took place yesterday (Monday 15th May) for 76 year 7 pupils from four local schools.  The pupils have all participated in an eight week scheme which aimed to raise young people’s aspirations, offer them an insight into higher education and increase awareness of the opportunities available to them.  Supported by student mentors from NEWI the pupils have been involved in a range of activities and produced some excellent work.

The pupils from Rhosnesni High School, St. David’s High School, Saltney; Ysgol Bryn Alyn; and Ysgol Rhiwabon were presented with certificates and a bag of goodies which included a polo shirt by Professor Michael Scott, NEWI’s Principal and Linda Evans, the Reaching Higher Reaching Wider Project Manager for North Wales.

The school pupils weren’t the only ones to be ones to commended on the evening and to their surprise the student mentors, who had voluntarily given up their time to get involved in the scheme, were asked up on stage to collect certificates and be thanked for their dedication and efforts by Professor Michael Scott.
