NEWI announced as approved centre for ILM

NEWI has become an approved centre for the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). At an event last week attended by local business people, Ian Lucas MP and head teachers from local schools it was officially announced by Kim Parish, Institute of Leadership and Management Chief Executive that NEWI was now an approved centre for the delivery of the ILM professional programmes in Leadership, Management and Coaching and Mentoring.

These qualifications develop people’s potential as managers, leaders, coaches or mentors. The qualifications are closely linked to the student’s employment within their managerial position and are aimed at giving them the opportunity to attain their goals. There are three levels of programmes that will run at NEWI. The Diploma in Management for middle managers or people wishing to progress to middle management, the Executive Diploma in Management for senior managers or people wishing to progress to that level and Coaching and Mentoring which will give managers the ability to coach others in their organisation; to act as a mentors to develop employees work performance and to support staff in their career development.

Professor Michael Scott, Principal and Chief Executive of NEWI talked at the launch event about the role of a university to its economy; “becoming an approved centre for the Institute of Leadership and Management highlights one of the key roles of NEWI as a driver of the North East Wales economy” he said. “We’re are not only training the employees of the future at NEWI but also many of our graduates set up their own businesses in the area. These courses will provide opportunities for everyone in the area to enhance their managerial skills.”

Kim Parish talked about the importance of the Institute of Leadership and Management worldwide. “The Institute has 2000 learning centres across the globe and I am delighted to welcome NEWI to join this very select club” she said. “There is a very rigorous selection process and NEWI’s objectives of innovation, inclusiveness and its contribution to the economy match the aims of the Institute of Leadership and Management.”

The Institute of Leadership and Management has awarded 80,000 qualifications, making it the biggest training provider in Europe and all the qualifications offer key workplace benefits and individual development
