Budding entrepreneurs
19 June 2006
Last week saw a group of budding Richard Bransons and Alan Sugars descend upon NEWI to find out more about how to run their own business. Over 30 people attended the events which were organised by G2E (Graduating to Enterprise) as part of business start-up week and hosted by NEWI.
The workshops were open to university students, recent graduates and sixth form students from in and around Wrexham and covered a host of relevant topics from legal issues and marketing to sales techniques and finance. The week’s activities aimed to offer up-and-coming entrepreneurs business tips and advice and to equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to successfully launch their own business.
The events attracted a range of individuals of all ages and all with very different ideas about what running a business would mean for them but according to Judith Alexander, Enterprise Projects Co-ordinator at NEWI, they all had one thing in common, their enthusiasm. “It has been a fantastic week, everyone is at different stages, some have a defined business idea others aren’t sure exactly what they want to do but like the idea of working for themselves. Everyone has put in 100% and I think they have all really benefited from the expert advice they’ve been given during the week. You could see their confidence growing over the week.”
The week’s activities culminated in a lunch on Friday in NEWI’s 1887 Restaurant. After lunch those who attended sat back and listened to one former NEWI student, who attended last years G2E events, tell his story about how he has been successfully running his own business ever since.
