Thousands of students set to graduate

More than 1,000 students will collect their degrees today and tomorrow in the first graduation ceremonies to be held at Glyndŵr University.

Graduands from across all subject areas will be joined by their friends and family as they collect their awards in the University’s William Aston Hall.

As well as collecting their degrees, all graduands will be given a commemorative Glyndŵr University coin to mark the University’s first awards day ceremonies. The University was formed in July this year when the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (NEWI) was granted full university title.

Two ceremonies will be held each day, at 10.30am and 2.30pm, after which graduands, family and friends will head to the University’s Edward Llwyd Centre for a celebratory drink.

Professor Michael Scott, Vice-Chancellor of Glyndŵr University, paid tribute to everyone collecting their awards at the ceremonies.

He said: “Today is a truly special occasion and my congratulations go to everyone on their achievements.  I am proud to be able to celebrate success with all of our graduates, and to acknowledge the hard work which each individual has put in to achieve their degree.

“As Vice-Chancellor I look forward to the awards ceremonies every year and this year’s are particularly special for the University as our first since we were granted full university title.

“Our graduates are the future, the future workforce for the local, regional, national and world economy. Whichever direction their careers take after today, I wish them the very best.”
