Part-time studies pay off for youth worker

Vanessa Postle from Telford graduated today with a Diploma of Higher Education in Youth Studies from Glyndŵr University, Wrexham.

“My interest in youth work came from when I was working as a community worker in Shropshire” said Vanessa. “I am now a Play and Activities Manager for Telford and Wrekin Council and my studies will be really useful for my job.”

Vanessa, aged 41 studied her course part-time and has now gone on to the honours degree in Youth and Community Studies at Glyndŵr University. “I choose to study in Wrexham as it was recommended to me by work colleagues who had already completed the course and I’ve absolutely loved it. The lecturers have been so encouraging; I don’t think I would be here today if it hadn’t been for their support.”

“My Mum jokes with me that I always get around to everything late in life but it’s lovely to see how proud my parents are of me today. It was definitely worthwhile.”

The graduation ceremonies held this week at Glyndŵr University are the first to be held since the institution gained university status and changed from the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (NEWI) in July 2008.
