In 2002 NEWI was formally invited to become a full member of the University of Wales

In October 2004 the University of Wales approved NEWI’s move from being an associate college to a full member institute of the University of Wales.

Throughout its history NEWI has been driven by the needs of the local community. From its earliest origins as additional educational provision for adults who would have left school with no qualifications at all, through its time as a technical college, to its present day as a major university education provider, NEWI has maintained that commitment to providing for the educational well being of the people of North East Wales.
