'World-leading research in Wales'
Please note that content is still being added to these pages and, until this process is complete, many links still point back to the old CAIR website and some material still relates to CAIR. Further CARDS material will appear when ready.
Welcome to the Centre for Creative and Applied Research for the Digital Society (CARDS) pages at Glyndwr University in Wrexham, North Wales. CARDS is one of six fully-accredited and recognised research centres within Glyndwr. In the recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008), 90% of CARDS (then CAIR)'s research was judged to be 'internationally significant', 40% 'internationally excellent' and some even 'world-leading' - the highest grade possible. We are involved in research projects across the whole spectrum of Internet technologies and applications and host the biennial ITA conference series. (We are busy planning for ITA 13!)
CARDS consists of ten loosely defined sub-groups, each with their own specialisms but working together on many projects:
Creative Branch
--- Art and Design Group (AD-G)
--- Humanities Group (H-G)
--- Journalism, Media & Performance Group (JMP-G)
--- Audio-Visual Technologies Group (AVT-G)
--- Environmental Applications and Digital Modelling Group (EADM-G)
Applied Branch
--- Networking and Security Technologies Group (NST-G)
--- High-Performance Computing and Applications Group (HPCA-G)
--- Health Informatics and Technologies Group (HIT-G)
--- User Experience Group (UX-G)
--- Ethics, Professionalism and Sustainability Group (EPS-G)

These pages provide information for current and potential academic and industrial partners as well as staff who are research active within the group, or who may be interested in following research initiatives. These will tell you about CARDS staff & students, recent publications, grants & awards, etc. as well as our comprehensive international conference and seminar programme.
