Student Funding and Welfare

The service is located in the student Guild Building. The service supports and guides prospective and current students on a range of funding and welfare issues and concerns.

If you have any enquiries related to Grants or Loans please contact us or visit Student Services , and we will do our best to help you.

Financial Contingency Fund

This fund provides discretionary financial assistance for home students (i.e. those who meet the residency conditions of a UK student), with the aim of helping them to access and remain in higher education and mainly for those students who need financial help to meet extra costs that cannot be met from other sources of support. The fund can assist in alleviating unexpected financial hardship, in addition to seeking money advice from our Welfare Adviser. It is up to your institution to decide whether you should receive an award from the Financial Contingency Fund.

Emergency Loan Payment

Short term Emergency loans are available to students whose student loan cheque has been delayed at the start of the academic year or for students who encounter unforeseen short term financial difficulty. The value of the loan available depends on individual circumstances.

Start-up Grants

Start-up grants are available for eligible students and are intended to help with programme related costs such as child care, travel and course materials. Support for part time students may also be available.

Where eligible, students must have applied for their full entitlement of Student loan and received their first instalment before receiving any payment from these grants.

Drop-in Service

Our room is available as a resource centre to access or download information and advice on issues related to student welfare in a quiet, friendly atmosphere.

We hold ADVICE SHOPS on student funding e.g. fees, grants, loans and bursaries. In addition, you can pick up some loan and grant application forms and get advice on filling them in.

A drop-in service is in operation however appointments are available with an adviser on request.
