Glyndŵr University Commercial Services Gains Prestigious Hospitality Assured Standard for Delivering Service and Business Excellence

Glyndŵr University Commercial Services, which covers Catering and Hospitality, Conferencing and Events, and Accommodation Services, has achieved Hospitality Assured status. Hospitality Assured promotes and rewards the highest standards of service excellence for organisations in the Hospitality Industry and is endorsed by the British Quality Foundation and Quality Scotland Foundation

In qualifying for the Hospitality Assured accreditation, Glyndŵr University Commercial Services underwent a rigorous assessment process over a two-day period to ensure they maintained high standards of service. The key areas of focus included customer and competitor research, business and operational planning, customer service delivery, training and development, and customer satisfaction improvements. The Hospitality Assured accreditation was undertaken by a team of independent assessors from MQA Ltd. on behalf of the Institute of Hospitality, which is the professional body for hospitality industry managers worldwide.

Commenting on the accreditation, Head of Commercial Services, Lynda Powell said: "We are delighted to have achieved Hospitality Assured. For Glyndŵr University Commercial Services, it’s always been about providing outstanding hospitality and customer service. Hospitality is about how we make a customer feel when we look after them and this needs to be combined with excellent service delivery. Hospitality Assured has helped us focus on the key areas that achieve these goals throughout the department; and the accreditation has given us the reassurance that we are doing the right things.

“The Standard has helped us to concentrate on the whole customer experience by ensuring all of our actions within the department are ultimately focused on giving the best service possible to our students and customers. In addition to being an excellent business planning tool, the Hospitality Assured process – leading to our assessment – has also been a great team building experience! We feel that this award is the ultimate recognition of the professionalism of our team.”

In gaining the Standard, Glyndŵr University Commercial Services joins an elite group of UK’s universities who have now achieved the Hospitality Assured Standard for aspects of their hospitality services – including residential, catering and conferences. The universities include: Brunel; Brighton; University College London (UCL), London; Royal Holloway College, London; Glasgow; Leeds; Southampton; St. Andrews, West of England and Bristol.
(Date released: 11.08.2008)

LATEST NEWS FROM THE FUNDING & WELFARE TEAM

New starters 2010/11 - Have you applied for your Student Funding?

To be eligible for the Student Support package for a Full-time Undergraduate course you are about to undertake (different rules for nursing students) you need to complete and return a 2010/11 PN1 application form. If you haven’t already done so contact your Student Finance section at your Local Education Authority or Library Board ASAP to request a form or apply via the following relevant website:-

Welsh domiciled students http://www.studentfinancewales.co.uk/

English domiciled students http://www.studentfinancedirect.co.uk/

Northern Ireland domiciled students http://www.studentfinanceni.co.uk/

Scottish domiciled students http://www.saas.gov.uk/

If you have been accepted on a Nursing degree course you will be eligible for a non-means tested bursary and an application form will be sent to you during August.

Additional help

Glyndŵr University Bursary.

To assist you during your time at Glyndŵr University we have created our own bursary scheme.

This is available to eligible full-time undergraduate students (those in receipt of a nursing, social work bursary or EU fee scholarship will not be entitled to this bursary). The assessment of your eligibility for this will be carried out when you apply for your main student funding via your funding application. You will need to provide household income details and sign all relevant declarations so that Glyndŵr University can make bursary payments to you (without this information we are not able to pay the bursary). For further information on the bursary please visit: http://www.glyndwr.ac.uk/en/Programmesandfees/Feesscholarshipsandbursaries/

Financial Contingency Fund

A Financial Contingency Fund exists for home students to provide financial help to students who face unexpected difficulties in meeting their costs.

European Union (EU) non-UK funding

In brief, the only funding available at present for EU students is support with tuition fees. EU nationals are subject to the same tuition fee as students whose permanent place of residence is in Wales. In 2010/11 you will be charged a tuition fee of £3,290 and you can apply for a tuition fee loan to cover this amount. Therefore, you will not have to find the cost of your tuition fees up front but you will have to fund your living costs. However, certain EU students may be eligible for a fee scholarship package from Glyndwr University but only for specific courses: http://www.glyndwr.ac.uk/en/Feesandstudentfinance/EUnon-UKstudents2010/

You apply for the tuition fee loan by sending an application form to the EU Customer Services Team
To download a form: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/UniversityAndHigherEducation/
StudentFinance/StudentsFromOtherEUCountries/DG_067556 and follow the links for your particular application form.

Contact details for the EU TEAM:

Extra financial Information

BEFORE YOU COME TO UNIVERSITY GET YOUR MONEY SORTED

You will need a bank account to receive your grants and loans. If you haven’t got one already shop around look for a good student account: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/Student-bank-account

If you have got credit, store cards or other loans, try to get your balance as low as possible before you start your course. Although there’s government help for many courses and basic living costs, it’s unlikely to be enough to cover large personal loans, credit or store-card repayments.

Shop around for a good deal if you have a monthly mobile phone contract, or consider a pay-as-you go phone.

When you know what grants & loans you will receive make a realistic budget, it is never too early to start. During your first couple of weeks at University keeping a spending diary will help you to be aware of what you're spending money on and to identify areas of wastage:

http://www.moneymadeclear.org.uk/guides/everyday/managing_your_money.html

The Student Services Funding & Welfare Team can provide further details on all of the above and can be contacted on
